King & Queen of the Beach® Format
Core Concept
- Instead of fixed teams, players rotate partners.
- Every athlete plays with and against every other athlete in their pool.
- The format emphasizes versatility: serving, setting, defense, blocking, and strategy in different team dynamics.
Match Play
- A pool usually has 4 players (sometimes more).
- They compete in round-robin games, each time switching partners.
- Matches are often shorter sets (for example, first to 15 or 21 points) to allow multiple games in one session.
Scoring System
- Individual points are awarded, not team points.
- A player earns points for every rally won while on the court, regardless of partner.
- At the end, all points are tallied to see which individual scored the most.
Advancement
- After preliminary pools, the top scorers advance to semifinals or finals.
- In finals, the same partner-rotation format continues until one athlete emerges as the King or Queen of the Beach®.
